Hellcat's Flasher 1.60 Guide

Hellcat has released an awesome new flasher that is capable of performing many cool functions on our psps. Now, this flasher tool will be extremely useful for those wanting to :

1)  Reflash their semi-bricked psp units
2) Downgrade from a higher custom firmware to a lower one.
3) Revert to an official firmware from a custom firmware
4) Upgrade directly to a new custom firmware from an older   custom firmware without having to install the 3.52m33-4 firmware beforehand.

Here's a short and simple guide on how to get Hellcat's Flasher v1.60 on your psp unit.

1) Download Hellcat's Flasher 1.60 : Hellcat's Flasher 1.60

*Download the firmware of your choice only. For instance, if you want to install 5.00m33, then   just download 500.pbp. Ignore the other firmwares*

2) Download 3.71 official firmware : 3.71 eboot

3) Download 3.80 official firmware : 3.80 eboot

4) Download 3.90 official firmware : 3.90 eboot

5) Download 4.01 official firmware : 4.01 eboot

6) Download 5.00 official firmware : 5.00 eboot

7) Once you've downloaded the flasher, extract the files and folders off the .rar file.

8) You should see a few folders. We want to concentrate on the one that is named RECOVERY as that is the folder that we will be using.

Note : To those whose psps are in a semi-bricked state, just boot into recovery mode, and enable USB mode there.

9) Copy the RECOVERY folder, and paste it in "ms0:/PSP/GAME"

10) Now, copy the firmware eboot that you downloaded, and paste it in the RECOVERY folder. After doing so, your directory should be something like this :

ms0:/PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/eboot.pbp and XXX.pbp (XXX represents the firmware name)

11) That's pretty much it. Now, just run it on your psp, and after that, everything is pretty much straight forward.

How to install custom firmware patches?

I've received a few mails and private messages from some of my friends regarding the installation of custom firmware patches. These patches are actually created by the developer of the custom firmware to patch errors in the original code or maybe even to add new features to the existing custom firmware.

Now, for this short guide, i'll be using the -2 patch for 40.1M33.

1) Download this patch : 4.01m33-2 Patch

2) Now, extract the files from the .rar file using your favorite rar extracting software.

3) You should now see a folder named "UPDATE-2".

4) Copy that folder, and paste it in the ms0:/PSP/GAME directory.

5) That's it. Now scroll to game, and run the update!

This applies for nearly every custom firmware update out there. Also, these sort of patches would take barely a few seconds to complete.

Cheers!

How to get homebrew on your psp

Homebrews are basically games, applications, plugins, flashers etc that are developed by fellow psp users who have got a decent programming knowledge. In fact, you can develop homebrew and enjoy them on your psp as well! But um, as usual, there's always a twist behind everything. You need to be able to code in either C, C++ or Lua which are the three most famous language used in psp programming.

About homebrew :

Not every psp unit is capable of running homebrew. Only certain official firmwares can do so. By saying so, I mean firmware 1.00 and 1.50 which are both early psp firmwares that can run unsigned code a.k.a homebrew. However, Sony decided to put an end to the unsigned code reign, and they came up with newer firmwares that removed the ability to run unsigned code on the system. However, it all came to an end when hackers (Dark_AleX and friends) managed to develop custom firmwares. With custom firmware, homebrew can be loaded with ease.

Homebrew capable firmwares :

1) Firmware 1.00
2) Firmware 1.50
3) Firmware 2.71 (With HEN)
4) Firmware 2.80 (With HEN)
5) Firmware 5.03 (With ChickHEN)
6) All custom firmwares

Types of homebrew :

Homebrews come in a few different builds.

1) Firmware 1.00 builds (Game)
2) kXploit builds (Game & Game%)
3) 3.xx builds (Game)

All these three builds can be run on phat psp units with custom firmware on it, but unfortunately, slim units cannot run kXploit builds due to the absence of 1.50 kernel. This encouraged homebrew developers to build their homebrew using the 3.xx build in order to support slim units as well.

How to install homebrew :

Homebrew installation is extremely easy.

1.00 builds go into the ms0:/PSP/GAME directory.
kXploit builds go into ms0:/PSP/GAME150
3.xx builds go into ms0:/PSP/GAME3xx

A few homebrew games :

There are many good homebrew out there. All you need to do is to search for the keyword which is "homebrew" of course, and BAMM! You get the results you want.

Now, i've developed several games, and here's on of them : Urinal Test

That's just an example. To get that game to run on your unit, just place the Urinal Test folder (That has the eboot.pbp file in it) in ms0:/PSP/GAME and you're done!

A few sites you should take a look at :

Hey

Hey guys, i've never really dug deep into blogging, and this basically is my first shot at it. The main purpose of this blog is to help fellow PSP (PlayStation Portable) users with hacks and exploits using guides and tutorials which I will soon post in here. So, hello everybody, and welcome to PlayStation Sensation!
